Events to explore in Perth

Cultural events or festivals are an excellent way to explore the culture of a town. In Perth, there are many festivals which you can attend as well as one-off events that make for a great night out on the town.

Perth is always alive with some street festival or event going on during the warmer months of January and February. The winter months see much less activity on the streets but there are still cultural events taking place.

A few of the festivals you can attend yearly in Perth include:

– The Fringe Arts Festival – an arts festival which takes place on weekends during June and July. There are several small local artists selling items or displaying their creations as well as some larger acts coming to town performing for several days.

– The Perth International Arts Festival – a large arts festival held at the start of February over four weeks. It brings many different kinds of live performances from around the world to Perth including dance, music, and theatre as well as offering workshops for those interested in learning more about some of the performance styles on display.

– The Perth Cultural Festival – a longer festival that occurs every six weeks. There are many outdoor performances to watch but it also has indoor options as well for those who are not fond of the weather.

– The Perth Elvis Festival – an annual event which is held over several days in June to celebrate Elvis Presley, one of the most famous musicians ever. The festival includes many kinds of activities and competitions including a fun run and an Elvis lookalike competition.

– The Perth Writers Festival – in the autumn every year, the city comes alive with writing talent from around Australia and even overseas. There are workshops for people interested in writing as well as discussion panels about what is currently going on in the writing world.

– The annual Carols by Candlelight takes place during December each year at Kings Park. There are four performances of this concert each night with one on Christmas Eve and another on Christmas Day. It is a very popular event and tickets sell out early.

– The Perth Royal Show – this travelling show brings many interesting activities from agricultural displays to entertainment to the exhibition centre in East Perth. There are many events held throughout the year including carols by candlelight and a harvest festival.

– The Perth Royal Duck Race – every two years this event takes place, raising money for charity. It is a race in which rubber ducks are entered into the river to see if they can reach the finish line first.

– Bannister River Festival – every year the bannister river is filled with activities such as fishing, rowing competitions and cultural displays. July each year there is a festival to celebrate the river which began in 1980 after the State Government removed 50,000 tonnes of iron ore from it.
